Kevin Tackett

My name is Kevin Tackett. Born here in Marion, I went to the Art Inst. of Pittsburgh in 1987. I was more enthusiastic about my social life at that time than I was at actually seeing my future. After a tumultuous two years, I landed back here in Marion with not much to show for my lack of effort. After managing a local cafe for a few years I married and gained a beautiful 4 year old daughter in the bargain. Money was hard to come by and after a traumatic event I found myself without a job. Luckily I went to work at a new local prison where I have been for the last fifteen years, and gained a son who I love dearly. My love of History has driven me to return to school. I hope to fair better this time and reach my new goal of working at a museum.
My hobbies, in the little free time that I have, is mostly spent with my son. We go to the YMCA together, and in good weather I help train him in soccer. The essay that interested me the most was
Frederick Douglass' Resurrection. Not only from a historical aspect did it draw me in, but also how vividly it was written. It amazes me how a one split second decision by a slave named Bill could have changed the life of Mr. Douglas either way, and thus changing the history of the United States as we know it today.
