Ain't scared of your jails Akashi Patel

The students and the community members started this protest to gain their civil right and to not be discriminated against because of their color. They would sit at the spots of whites in restaurants. The students were trained to not fight back when they were being abused. If anyone was to hit them, push them, or verbally abuse them then they would stay quiet and take it. The police and the whites started to abuse them and students were getting thrown in jail. I thought it was truly amazing for all those students to risk their lives and be willing to go to jail and take a beating for all this. It was brilliant that SNCC had more students come in as the cops took away a bunch from the restaurant. Freedom Rides were to gain respect from politicians and lawmakers and to some degree they achieved that goal.

  1. I think that the students who were freedom riders were really brave because even though they knew they could get beat up or killed they still did it anyways.

  2. I don't think I could have ever been as brave as they were, just sitting there taking anything that came at them. I agree, they completly met that goal of gaining respect, at least in the long run.

  3. I liked that in the movie it was seen as a "badge of honor" because I think they knew that they were getting to the authority figures by seeing that they were responding. The amount of strength it must have taken to not retaliate when they were being verbally and physically abused. I don't know that I would have the courage to do the things that they did.
