Ain't Scared of Your Jails:

From the movie "Ain't Scared of Your Jails," the one thing that struck me the most was the fact the mayor, Ben West, allowed so many things happen to people of the African American community that shouldn't have. He let people be beaten, segregated, and treated practically inhuman. I found it sad that he really didn't acknowledge the fact that anything was even wrong with what was happening until a student protested outright asked him if he thought it was wrong and what his moral was. To answer this question West said, "Moral? I guess that has to be answered as a man, not a politician...," and he went on to say that he morally did not agree with the segregation, and that the city should do what it could to desegregate. I couldn't imagine how terrible of a place that could be today, if he wouldn't have much such a good decision, even though so many people were against it.

  1. That was one of my favorite quotes...you won't hear a politician today say that. To make that statement, knowing so many people were against it, was pretty impressive. Once again, not something you would see happen today.

  2. After reading your post, I hadn't even remembered about Mr. West being so selfish about his political career and diminishing the human rights of African Americans. I like how you added morals to whole situation because a persons morals can define them.
