I think that the author of "Shrouded in Contradictions" feels conflict because she lives in a world where identification plays a big role. She shares this conflict for maybe the reasons of hostility because she is Tehran or maybe she just wants to trying to fit in.
A contradiction that I encounter (sort of goes with this story) is the fact that I am multiracial and have to be judged. People always see the part of me that is different like skin color or hair color. I like being different but sometimes it gets overwhelming when people put me in "those kinds" of categories.
