Ain't Scared of Your Jails

What struck me the most about this time in history would be that even after the Civil War and feering African Americans from slavery, it still took so long for whites to finally accept them. It just shows how close-minded people are. It was also interesting that even though the students would be phsyically beaten, they still were a non-violent group. A direct quote that caught my attention from the film would be right at the end where one of the former SNCC members is telling about his time in jail and how and inmate named "Pee Wee" was forced to beat him because he wouldn't relinquish his mattress and he said, "it hurt Pee Wee more than it hurt me." It was very unfair for the jailers to make Pee Wee beat up one of his own just for standing up for himself and his race.

  1. I agree that this shows how closed-minded people are. I was really shocked at some of the things people would say and how they could think that way.
