Ain't Scared of Your Jails

After reviewing the film Ain't Scared of Your Jails my eyes were open to some of the problems that African Americans had during the times of segregation. I had known about a lot of the problems that blacks faced through out the 1900's but after seeing this video it painted a picture to what they actually had to go through. The thing that surprised me the most was the fact that through out all of the brutality that they received, they still remained non-violent and didn't take action against white supremacists. Seeing the video of them being hit and attacked while just sitting at the counter of a local diner made the emotion that much deeper. I had heard about "sit-ins" and the Freedom Riders but I had no recollection of videos being present of the times. The scene where Martin Luther King and many followers are gathered in a church and are faced with a lethal mob waiting outside he said "No need to panic, everything's going to be ok". This quote may be short and abrupt, but the meaning behind it secures all of those inside the church with hope. If I were in this same situation I would think that I would be dead in a matter of hours. The National Guard stepped in and ended the mob luckily. The harsh times suffered by the black race is terrible, and the fact that there's video evidence of people being so hateful during this time makes it even worse.

  1. I also thought it was awesome how the blacks didn't take up to violence, but rather stood up for what they believed in with harming anyone.
