The Tet Offensive

The Tet Offensive was meant to catch the US off guard and to drive the US out of Vietnam. This offensive was thought to drive the US out because of all the anti-war protests in the United States. This offensive was going to be carried out by fighting on two fronts, by doing this the Vietnamese thought they could spread the US military out so much they would fold causing them to give up one of the cities they had captured. The Tet Offensive was viewed as a turning point in the war. The offensive was said to cause the president to realize that he would need to send more men and more resources over if they were going to completely defeat the Vietnamese. Since there had been many anti-war protests in America this was not really possible.

  1. I think that the Tet Offensive would have caused Americans to stop being so "anti-war" because of the Vietnamese tactics. If they were trying to force us out, it wouldn't have worked because it says that the president would have sent more troops over there.

  2. The Tet Offensive might have been a failure for the Vietnamese on a military standpoint, but they really succeeded in crippling American moral on the home front. That might have done more damage than any successful attack could have.

  3. This was a failure on the Vietnamese's part. Its sad that this was said to be the cause of the president sending more people overseas.

  4. I think that the Tet Offensive in a way was a good think for the American Army because it got the president to realize that we did not have enough troops or resources therefore had to pull our men out.
